Report: Mix Speaker's,Inc.
January 23rd 2008 - ZECHE, Bochum
Mix Speaker's,Inc. is a band you will keep in mind. They owe this not only to their fabulously designed costumes, which seem to be conceived in each detail, but also in their unique music, that you can recognize always and everywhere. Also their line-up is special. The multi faceted voice of Mix Speaker's,Inc. is not from one, but from even two vocalists.
Such a concept promises an exciting live performance and so we were really happy, jrockradio.com could be present in Bochum during the band's first European tour.
The weather was anything else than pleasant this day and I was a little bit glad my train was late. So there was no need to wait outside until the doors opened. But a good many others were not kept from the early coming. When I arrived at the hall, the Zeche was already half-full with the pretty colored public and the mood was heated-up.
After I cooled my heels at the wardrobe a short time, I attended to the waiting fans in front the stage. At the trench a number of photographers and even a TV camera along with a sound man had gathered and intrigued me more about the show.
More and more people arrived at the hall and there was no long waiting. The show started punctually. Accompanied by rapturous applause of the public and their typical opening SE the band members entered the stage one by one. Everybody presented himself and welcomed the fans, before they took their instruments. The bottom of the league were the two singers MIKI and YUKI. They were welcomed by the fans with unmistakable ardor!
Live the costumes looks even more grandiose. From S' wolf mask, seek's whole masquerade to small details like AYA's red Muck-shoes, which put me in mind of Thousand Nights and a Night or the plastic forks, which funnily enough decorated MIKI's outfit.
Mix Speaker's,Inc. gave a great show from the very beginning and entertained the fans excellently. They played in with "You Ai Message", their latest single. The setlist was a nice mixture of the recent album and former releases. However it seems they moved backwards to their discography, because the last song was "Junk Story", that you can find on their very first single.
For each single song the guys excogitated their own Para-Para performance and is looked pretty impressive, because the move comprehended not only the band but also the whole public. Between the stage and the hall were no borders. Everybody imitated the moves of MIKI and YUKI. The ocean of rhythmical waving hands electrified all of them. Also when the two vocalists pulled out bandannas or even glove puppets for their Para-Para performances, you can find the same accessories amongst the fans. Everybody in the hall seemed to be part of the show and this all made a lot of fun.
Also musical Mix Speaker's,Inc. has an amazing live quality and the voices of the front men harmonize greatly. Between the songs YUKI addresses some words to us by a crib. The paper was marked with "Lesson 1". In this sense we got a little Japanese induction until all answered loud and clear to YUKI's "Konnichiwa". Mostly it was YUKI, who spoke to us, but when he announced "I love you" MIKI had to correct it, because he was not the only one on stage. MIKI put it fast into "WE love you" and of course raised huge cheers. Although it sounded English came more naturally to him than to YUKI, he gave just small comments. In the end it was the music and the show that matters and this can be called excellent in any case.
Without an encore the fans didn't want to let the 6 musicians go and the band followed the call for "encore". Before they played on, they stepped on for a together performance. Now also the last in the hall fell in moving and took part anyway. After another song they finished the show with "You Ai Message" and a photo with their fans.
Kudos to drummer S and bassist seek, who wore their masks during the whole concert although it was a stormy affair as usual. Blessedly the water supply for the fans was flawless.
It was a successful evening.
When Mix Speaker's,Inc. performs in Europe the next time, don't miss this show!!
A lot of thanks to the organisatots and Twisted Talent for our possibility to visit this great event.
