Interview with the Underneath
at TOC/08 in Chicago
Zorro (from jrockradio.com): Talk to us about the experience of being part of a big USA tour like Rockstar Taste Of Chaos.
TAKA (vocalist): We are really happy, it is great experience. No just in the music side, also personally. Be in America all this time, is really good experience so we are really happy.
Zorro: The Underneath is a very energetic band and your music has such an aggressive beat at the same time. Your band offers something so unique! How has the public here in the USA responded to this formula?
TAKA: We are influence by many things, also our music change so much since we started. Influenced no just by music from Japan, actually form America and England too. We try putting all this things together and we believe the public can understand the energy. No matter if they can't understand the words, they understand the feeling, they can get it and that is a great thing.
Zorro: What American band in the Rockstar Taste Of Chaos do you like most?
MASATO (guitarist): Even before we know we will come to this tour, we know the bands and we listen them. We really like all in special Atreyu and Seventh Avenfold.
TAKA: Also the bass player of Bullet of my Valentine came to the bus and introduce himself, and we get the chance of have direct relationship. That is amazing. Never happen before, just in a festival tour, so that is really awesome. We don't have relationship with everybody but is something what is happening right now.
Zorro: What does the support of JrockRevolution bringing bands out of Japan, mean to you?
TAKA: We are really happy about Jrock Revolution put themselves in this position. Not just with their festival, also they put themselves (is not translation for this word) like front face person, and start to say: okay, check out this band, check out this other band too and that is great.
Zorro: The Underneath will have American releases next week. Talk to us about it.
TAKA: We are really excited about the release of "Moon Flower". Also it's not released in Japan yet, so is really our beginning here and we can call the fans: Go get the CD! Is like a started, we really are looking for that. From this point we are really excited looking how things going.
Zorro: Your music is full of powerful sounds and concepts. How do you compose it?
TAKA: Normally we start with a base in computer, then coming the guitar and drums. We put some lyrics and record like a demo. After that we start to listen and increments for that. Always lyrics go last.
Zorro: What other tours does The Underneath hope to do in the future?
TAKA: We don't have concrete plans yet after Taste of Chaos. We want back here, go to others countries in Asia, Europe and of course Latin America. We hope can do that.
Zorro: Did you know that The Underneath has many fans in Latin countries like Costa Rica, Chile, and Brazil? What would your message be to all of us who are hoping to see The Underneath one day in one of these countries?
TAKA: We will love come and have shows. It's great how the music culture is changing and now you can go to the internet to listen the bands, see videos online but we want the fans know the best thing they can do is see us live. It's like the fresh fish, it's better fresh and not just something in a package. We think the public fill us and we fill them with the energy in the concerts, that is the kind of relationship we want have with the fans.
Zorro: Thank you so much for your time for Jrockradio.com and thanks from all your fans who visiting our site from USA, Latin America and Europe.
